Plans to provide cyclists a secure place to store their bikes

The City of St. Louis Treasurer’s Office will conduct a bike rack pilot in conjunction with the Office’s new meter technology roll out.

The Treasurer’s Office will install approximately 20 bike racks to parking meters across St. Louis in efforts to study how biking can be integrated into the city’s parking infrastructure. A number of racks were also donated by Downtown STL. Bike racks attached to parking meters provide cyclists with a secure place to store their bikes in St. Louis and promote a healthier city.

“As we upgrade our parking technology, we want to be very conscience of all involved motorists, pedestrians, and yes bikers,” said Tishaura O. Jones, Treasurer for the City of St. Louis. “Our city’s biking community is growing and we are pleased to work with Great Rivers Greenway, Downtown STL, and several neighborhood associations to complement their work to accommodate those who choose to bike.”

Recommendations for placement of the meters have been gathered from Downtown STL, the Cherokee Business Association, and the South Grand Community Improvement District. The new racks are scheduled to be installed Tuesday, March 31, 2015.
