Free Classes to Help Combat Equifax Data Breach

The fallout from the Equifax data breach is on everyone’s minds these days, so the Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) is offering some free classes to help people get their credit back on track. One class is on identity theft. Participants will learn how to prevent fraud, protect their personal information online, and learn what to do if they were impacted by the Equifax data breach. The identity theft classes are offered at the following times and locations:

October 5: 12:30 p.m. at the Office of Financial Empowerment
(1200 Market Street, Room 220)

• October 19: 12:30 p.m. at the Office of Financial Empowerment
(1200 Market Street, Room 220)

• October 26: 6:00 p.m. at Kingdom House
(1321 South 11th Street)

The OFE is also partnering with Prosperity Connection to offer a class on Credit Matters, which focuses on what credit is, how to get it, and why a good credit score matters. That class will be offered at the following times and locations:

October 10: 11:00 a.m. at the Office of Financial Empowerment
(1200 Market Street, Room 220)

• October 10: 12:30 p.m. at the Office of Financial Empowerment
(1200 Market Street, Room 220)

In addition, the OFE and Operation HOPE will offer two free Credit and Money Management seminars where participants can learn how to establish or increase their credit score, create a budget, how to read a credit report, and how to correct credit report errors. The seminars will be offered at the following times and locations:

October 7: 9:30 a.m. at the Barr Branch of the St. Louis Public Library
(1701 S Jefferson Avenue)

• October 19: 5:00 p.m. at the Office of Financial Empowerment
(1200 Market Street, Room 220)
