Treasurer Jones and Community Partners Plan 2nd Annual Financial Empowerment Fair

The City of St. Louis Treasurer’s Office is partnering with several community organizations to host the Second Annual Financial Empowerment and Job Fair at St. Louis Community College –Forest Park on Saturday, April 25, from 11am to 3pm.

This event is co-sponsored by St. Louis Community College –Forest Park, The St. Louis Agency for Training and Education (SLATE), The St. Louis Regional Unbanked Taskforce (STRUT), The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, and The United Way of Greater St. Louis and promises to be a day of family fun and financial empowerment. Apart from providing valuable educational resources, the Financial Empowerment and Job Fair will include activities for the whole family.

Whether hoping to find a fresh start, a better job, or a new career direction, job seekers will find a wealth of exciting opportunities at this free job fair. A variety of employers from both the public and private sectors will be eager to hire for immediate openings in a wide range of fields.

Several banks and credit unions, as well as state and federal agencies, will be on hand to provide important information about the second chance bank accounts, credit counseling, the unclaimed property database, identity theft, and new opportunities available through the MOST 529 College Savings Program.

“Last year we were able to address the issue of unbanked households in our region, and this year we hope to do even more,” said Treasurer Tishaura O. Jones. “The first step in this process is to get people into gainful employment so that they can be empowered to make better choices with their money and avoid using predatory financial services.”
