City of St. Louis Treasurer Tishaura O. Jones has been selected as a recipient of the 2018 Women in Business and Civic Leadership Awards by Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation.

Held annually in Washington, DC, the 2018 Women in Business and Civic Leadership Awards recognizes women champions of policy and programs to advance economic development, entrepreneurship ecosystems and job opportunities within their respective communities. Recipients must work for a government, non-profit or chamber entity.

Treasurer Jones is the chief investment and cash management officer of the city and oversees the city’s parking division. She is the first woman to hold the office of Treasurer in the history of St. Louis. Since becoming Treasurer, she has increased transparency in city government, streamlined and modernized the parking division, improved returns on the city’s investments, and increased the overall financial health of city residents by reducing the number of unbanked households. Most notably, Treasurer Jones started the College Kids Children’s Savings Account Program, which since 2015 has opened over 10,000 post-secondary savings accounts for public school students in the City of St. Louis.

Prior to becoming Treasurer, she established a track record of leadership in the Missouri House of Representatives. She was a Missouri State Representative from 2008-2012 and was the first African American and First Female Assistant Minority Floor Leader.

“We are proud to elevate and celebrate women who work daily to ensure economic and entrepreneurial opportunities,” stated Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder & CEO of Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation. “We received hundreds of nominations from across the country and are honored to recognize Treasurer Jones for her achievements and her embodiment of leadership, determination, and civic leadership.”

“It is an honor to receive this award from Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation,” said Treasurer Jones. “To be recognized by an organization committed to improving economic prosperity and reducing economic inequality for multicultural women and girls, a cause that is close to my heart, is humbling.”

Recipients will be honored at the 2018 Women in Business and Civic Leadership Awards Luncheon held in Washington, DC on September 13, 2018 at the Hamilton Live. The program will include featured remarks by notable female elected officials and is held in partnership with the African American Mayors Association.

The event is sponsored by Microsoft and Verizon and is produced by Walker’s Legacy and the Walker’s Legacy Foundation. For more information on the Walker’s Legacy Women in Economic Development and Civic Engagement Panel and Awards or to attend, please visit www.walkerslegacy.com.
